Steven SoignetSteven Soignet, MD


Prior to starting Arcus Ventures in 2007, Steven co-founded The Arcus Group in 2001, a consulting company that provided diligence and strategic guidance for clients in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry and financial services. In 2003, he became a venture partner of Cross Atlantic Partners, a venture capital fund located in New York City.

Prior to 2001, Steven held a faculty appointment in the Developmental Chemotherapy Service, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and in the Department of Medicine, Cornell University Medical Center. His primary research focus was in early phase clinical drug development in both hematological and solid tumors and involved novel differentiation agents, transcription modulators, cell cycle inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, and cytotoxic chemotherapies. He was a lead investigator of a Pilot and a large US Multicenter Trial that lead to the US FDA and European approval of arsenic trioxide for the treatment of relapsed acute promyelocytic leukemia. His research has been published in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Leukemia, Blood, Journal of Clinical Oncology and Clinical Cancer Research. Steven received his BS from the University of New Orleans, his MD (AOA, honors) from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans; his internship and residency were completed in medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN. He completed his fellowship training in medical oncology/ hematology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where he subsequently joined the faculty. His leadership roles there included Chief Fellow, Chairman of Chemotherapy Practice, Vice-Chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and a member of the Investigational New Drug committee. He has recently completed a 2-year term as a member of the Board of Advisors of the American Red Cross, Greater New York Chapter. Steven has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, including LSU School of Medicine Chancellor’s Award, The William Hillman Teaching Award at Vanderbilt University Medial Center, the American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award, and the National Medical Oncology Fellow’s Forum Award. He is currently a member of the American Society of Hematology, and the American Association of Clinical Research.
